Bookings Spring 2017
A visit to Pinnacles on Telo is one of the world’s truly great surfing experiences. The Telo Islands are a group of 51 islands located just on the border of North Sumatra between Nias and Mentawai Islands. The exotic culture and the breathtaking, jungle landscape of Sumatra is an experience and adventure like no other.
The Telos Lodge, a brand new resort facility set upon a 50 acre private island, is a true surfer’s and non-surfer’s paradise. The extraordinary playing field of waves in the Telos region are user-friendly and easy to access. The remote location and limited number of resorts in the area keeps the crowds away.
The resort’s eight private villas, just recently completed at the end of 2016, were designed by the highly regarded BAR Architects of San Francisco with interiors curated by New York’s High Line Collective. All rooms feature air-conditioning, wi-fi and en-suite facilities.
Each villa has a king-sized bed and two day beds that allow guests to enjoy sweeping ocean views from every place in the room. Rooms are serviced twice daily, with complimentary laundry service.
The main lodge serves as the center of resort activity when guests are not surfing. The lodge includes a restaurant, bar, and infinity edge pool. Guests can enjoy acres of grounds, manicured with fruit trees, a hydroponic garden and a spectacular private beach. Also important to note, Pinnacles is one of the few land-based surf lodges in North Sumatra with a tsunami escape zone three meters from the main building, ensuring a level of safety not available in any other surf tourism facility in the region.
If you want the ultimate surf playground without the battle scars or the worry of a 10 foot sucking barrel, the Telos is what you are seeking. There are over 20 different breaks within an hour’s drive of Pinnacles on Telo and 70% of them are within 20 minutes of the lodge. The surf here is ultra consistent, in the 3-5- foot range, lefts and rights that work in all tides and opposite wind directions virtually guaranteeing offshores every day.
We love this location for families with different surf abilities. One of the biggest bonuses is the peak directly in front of the resort, allowing for a friendly wave with the convenience of a direct paddle out session.
The food at Pinnacles on Telo is healthy, fresh, delicious and prepared with great care by the onsite Chef. The menu was designed around signature dishes that often will feature ingredients and fish found in the region. Guests share meals in the main lodge restaurant where meals vary between buffet and table service and will sate even the heartiest surf appetites. Special diet requests are welcome and well accommodated for. Three meals per day are included in the daily rate for guests.
The resort offer numerous activities catering to non-surfing guests, including cooking classes in the open demonstration kitchen, a full spa, massage, yoga, games, and of course, a full complement of snorkeling gear, SUPs, kayaks, and even a sunfish for those who have some sailing experience. There are also numerous islands in the area offering coves, reefs and unpopulated beaches to day trip and explore.
Flights typically are routed through either Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia or Singapore. From any of these locations, you are then flown to the north Sumatran city of Medan, Indonesia, where you will be met on arrival by a hotel representative at the Medan airport.
Depending on your arrival time, you will either be taken to the JW Marriott for an overnight stay or taken directly to our Grand Caravan charter aircraft for departure to the Telo Island Lodge.
The fly-in-fly-out chartered transfer is precisely what puts this resort ahead of the pack. No more worrying about when – or if – your plane flies today. The resort controls the entire process and makes sure it goes off without a hitch every time on time.
Guests can relax and take in the scenery on the short 90-minute flight from Medan to the local airport Lasondre on the island of Tanah Masa. The airport is just a short boat ride from the resort.
