Greetings Shredders,

It’s been an action-packed summer. My travels started on June 15 and just recently ended on Sept 4. These days were full of swell and tons of achievement. I am blown away at the progress I saw in many students this summer. Consistent waves + wave riding = consistent results. The bottom line is if you want to surf better, you need to increase your wave count. A high-quality wave that allows for a high number of successful rides is the fastest road to improvement.

The swell window on Sumba provided consistent waves from June to September, allowing many of my clients to excel. Giant surf has great merit and is an unbelievable teacher, but consistent surfing is a real blessing when it comes to building skills and fundamental knowledge.

In the 160 sessions that went down this summer, I was blown away to see all of the grab rail cutbacks, perfect pig dogs, and front-side barrel riding attempts throughout these months. Way to push it, groms. Congratulations and welcome to the club.

You will undoubtedly improve when you can get a minimum of 15 waves per session over a series of days. Remember that for your next session at your home break or on your next trip. If I didn’t see you this summer, let’s make it happen soon.

Feel free to reach out at any time. I am home for the next few weeks and would be stoked to hear from friends old and new.

WHERE TO FIND WAVES IN THE NEXT 120 DAYS

– Chicama, Peru

The world’s longest left is just that, the world’s longest left, period. Translation: the most leg burning, arm-burning, lung burning, lunch-burning rides you will ever get. Standing on your board for 2 minutes on average after 20 waves is over a year’s worth anywhere else. Join the Joy Luck Club, and come get silly happy. Oh, and the food is insane! Perfect your drop, set-up turn, down carve and transition to your off-the-lip on one of the longest waves on the planet.

Stay at Chicama Boutique Resort for fantastic ocean views and quick access to the point. Add in the convenience of an on-site restaurant with premium ocean views, a pool, jacuzzi, yoga, and daily Zodiac boat service. This trip will leave your heart and surf froth fulfilled.

Come experience Chicama on a personal tour led by Terry Simms October 1-8, 2023. Also booking dates for the Spring of 2024.

– Salidita, Mexico

This area is rich in options from the long left, river mouth waves of Saladita to the peaks of the Ranch to the left reef point, Manzanillo Bay. Surf, relax, surf, eat, drink and be merry. This is the land of chill vibes and margaritas. Troncones is a small, fishing village with some fantastic boutique hotels and great food. For groups and families, a wide range of small to large villas can suit any budget. Our newest find is Canegro Y Toro, a seven-acre beachfront estate with four private and artfully designed casitas, perfect for sharing with friends and family.

Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa International Airport is easy to navigate and within a 30-minute drive to the central hub of waves and Troncones. Enjoy the warm sand and sun in this easy and fun-for-all gem that is known as Zihuatenejo region.

-Taghazout, Morocco. Anchor Point

This land of right points starts firing up in early December and continues through the first few months of the year.

Anchor Point showing her perfect teeth and smiling as if to tease and entice. This coastline is blessed by the desert Gods that say ‘‘Go Right’’ to all. Taghazout is on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Conveniently located 40 min from Agadir international airport, this is a short hop (2-4 hrs) from most central European cities. This exotic locale with waves and a unique cultural experience should be on every surfer’s bucket list.

We partner with Surf Maroc for epic ocean-view accommodations and an all-inclusive stay. Surf Maroc local knowledge will help avoid crowds and provide private transport. Terry will ensure epic waves, water safety, and plenty of laughs.

-Maqui Reef, Northern Fiji

This is the Fiji you imagine – the palm trees, flowers, white sand. This island is picture-perfect, and so is Maqui Reef. The Northern region of Fiji is well-known to divers, but most surfers tend to stay closer to Fiji’s more celebrated waves, Taverua and Nomotu. For those willing to venture a bit farther, the reward is there.

A small island called Qamea and a perfect peeling right lies within a short flight from Fiji’s international Nandi Airport. Looking for a barrel, sit deep on a 6-foot swell, and you will find it. For those who want a more mellow experience, the shoulder of Maqai Reef provides a fun wall into a happy ending channel. The short and flat coral reef that lies below is described as forgiving. I call this an equal opportunity wave because it can provide for a big fun factor on multiple surf levels without too much risk.

The area has several hotel options ranging from the ultra-luxury Como Leucala Island Resort to the family and budget-friendly Maqui Eco Resort.

Keep this one on your radar if you are looking for a tropical escape that offers uncrowded waves and all of Fiji’s aquatic bounties. This wave is prime time from December until early March.

Below are slots Terry is currently available for coaching and guiding in the next few months.

-Dec 23-Jan 5
